My Endorsement from Tom Johnson

I am honored to receive the “choice” endorsement (pun intended) of long time Newport-Mesa leader Tom Johnson.  Tom now writes for The Current, the weekly focusing on Costa Mesa inserted in the Orange County Register.   Click the headline below to read this week’s entire edition of the Current.  It also has a fine rundown of where each candidate stands on the important issues facing our city.

Here are the key quotes from Tom’s article:

The Good, the Bad, the Ugly … Costa Mesa politics

Harold Weitzberg struck me as a good guy and a very astute businessman. By trade, he specializes in branding and marketing, both of which he says Costa Mesa needs to “repair a damaged image caused by the current council” moving forward.
My picks: like him or not, Mensinger deserves another term. If I were trying to get something done, Steve’s definitely the guy I would want on my side. This might surprise some folks, but my second pick is Genis. She’s been there, done that and brings a Stanford pedigree showing that she does have the brains. My third pick is a choice between Weitzberg and Stephens. Both seem solid and I would hope the loser could get re-engaged perhaps at the planning level with a later shot at the council going forward.

Endorsements Update

I am proud to announce that I have earned the endorsement of the Orange County League of Conservation Voters and the Angeles Chapter of the Sierra Club.  We have similar perspectives and points of view, especially regarding the 19th Street Bridge and Banning Ranch.

An updated list of my endorsements can be found here.

Signs, Theft and Destruction of Property

Apparently, not everyone has seen my previous statements about this topic.  Let me be clear:

Taking political signs is theft.  Ruining political signs is destruction of property.

We encourage everybody engaging in these activities to stop.

It is not a prank.  It is not funny.  It is hurting all candidates.

Thank you very much.

Another Daily Pilot Commentary from Sacramento Political Lobbyist and Outsider Kevin Dayton

Kevin Dayton penned another commentary, which the Daily Pilot printed this morning.  It warrants a response.

Not fear, Mr. Dayton, just significant disappointment at how poorly constructed and administered this Charter Initiative has been conducted.

It appears that Mr. Dayton needs yet another chill pill or the stress reducer of his choice. He is still reliving the trials and tribulations he suffered when he tried to hijack our city council meeting on February 16th and was shut down after 10 minutes by the shouts and outrage of our Costa Mesa citizens, not Union officials.  How do I know they were Costa Mesa citizens?  I was one of them!  And I will shout him down where ever he appears in Costa Mesa to spew his divisive rhetoric. Response To Chuck Cassity’s Daily Pilot Column On the Proposed Charter

In today’s Daily Pilot, Mr. Cassity is making the classic mistake of a number of the charter supporters by emphasizing what he thinks the charter says when he should be looking at what it actually says and doesn’t say. It is not the concept of a charter, it is the fact of this charter.

I believe she is saying “Vote No on V.”

It is like the classic visual puzzle of the black and white drawing of a young woman and an old woman in the same image. If you perceive one section you see an young woman in white with flowing hair and if you perceive the other section you see an elderly woman’s profile.

This is one of the main difficulties with this charter. Because of the way it is written it can be interpreted different ways…and that means it won’t achieve the purported objective. Read More→
